Germiston Callies F.C.
![]() Over four thousand spectators saw Rangers play Germiston Callies that day, and both clubs received a standing ovation from the crowd. In 1960, Callies tied for top place with Durban City and Highlands Park, but lost the play off and finished third. They also figured in the first National Cup final in 1959 when they lost to Rangers. Bill McGarvie was their chairman in those hectic days and he signed among others Henry Hauser, Peter Hammer, Neville Pienaar, Graham Bales, Bowie Ching and Peter McEwan. Their best season was in 1962 when they finished fifth and won the U.T.C. Bowl and later shared the Champion of Champions title with Durban City and Highlands Park. They signed many players in 1966-67 when Alf Boyd was manager, one of the most notable being Cliff Durandt from Charlton, the London Club. Robertson and Mickey Lill were also notable signings. Long service goalkeeper Ron Orford was considered to be one of the best in the League.
