Cape Town City joined the N.F.L. in 1962 and were always a prominent team. Their first game against Wanderers attracted five thousand spectators but after that crowds of 20,000 were common.

Mr. Doolan Hoskins was the man behind the scenes and improved their ground at Hartleyvale to make it possibly the best in the country, spending over R250,000 in the process. Sponsors of the club were the Western Province F.A.

Jimmy Clark assisted by Peter Jaffer and Tony Farah were the first managerial team and Dick Kemp followed Clark and Reg Smith took over in 1965.

Prominent players have been Albert Uylenbogaardt, Eric Logan, Jack Plenderleith, Vic Lovell, Richard Allen, Fernando Custodiol, Don Mackenzie and Andy McQuarrie.

Their best year was in 1965 when they finished second to Highlands Park in the League and reached the U.T.C. Bowl Final.
